Verse 1: She was a dancer I was a glancing at her hips as they moved side to side Oh what a lady I wasn't afraid when our two lonely worlds collided, Chorus: But I swear to you When true loves' eyes become glued Time slows down, and speeds up again Verse 2: She was a rockin' I was a rollin' stone And our two lovely hearts became that home All the christmas trees, rings, and tire swings Life seems to float up and down like the breeze Chorus
2.
Verse 1: We planted a garden in the spring Way back when I was eighteen I loved to watch it grow so tall But it turned to mud and leaves in the fall And all I hear is the off-beat drops of rain Verse 2: Well she was gonna be my new start The rusty volkswagen in the yard But she turned into a project that never ends Seems I got a junkyard of dreams in my head And all I hear is the off-beat drops of rain Chorus: Hear it in my heart On the roof of my car In my head when I'm turnin' in my bed and the thunder rolls To the off-beat sound of rain Verse 3: That's when I hitch-hiked across the states Searching hard to lose my way But still my path seemed to find yours And we made love all night in the storm And all we'd feel were the off-beat drops of rain Chorus: Feel it in our hearts On the roof of our car In our life when I'm looking in your eyes and the thunder rolls To the off-beat sound of rain Musical-break Verse 4: Well, we'll settle in a house made out of wood Way back deep inside the woods And we'll sing a song that lovers sing And we'll plant a garden in the spring

Old Soul 03:40
Verse 1: This here's a song on a flat North Dakota Farm 'Bout an old soul sitting there, window and an arm thinkin': like the wheat he is consumed for wishes and wish he did That he would not be consumed, but instead allowed to live Verse 2: This all started when he was made to go to school They said if you wanna live your life, first you must learn the rules Gain the knowledge to get a job and wed a fruitful wife Pay your taxes, pray to god, and success could be your life Chorus: Bury my heart in the sand Damn my soul to the sea Give my body to the land But let my mind remain totally free Verse 3: Well old soul went out to go and find this fruitful love And many he did find, and they all seemed divine and to come from above But they never understood him as they asked him for the world He said, "I'm sorry dear, but that's not fair to give one simple girl." Now they said old soul I think it's time you get yourself to church You've been braking girls hearts and there's morals you must learn But the preacher in the chapel only scolded him and yelled, " There's another sorry soul on his way to hell. He said, "There's another sorry soul on his way to hell!" Chorus Bridge: Cause who are you to say what I can love Who are you to be my god above Who do you think you are Oh, climb your own mountain 'fore you lay claim Chorus Verse 3: Old soul left the flat farm and left the flat church that day "Another soul on his way to hell," Is all he heard them say Oh, he traveled mountains, as he did sing Chorus

Verse 1: Kickin' a rock down a dusty road Never knowin' where I'm going I got no destination Just singin' a simple tune On the backside of high noon Far away from civilization That's when I was attacked By a great big Kodiak And I knew it was my life or his Chorus: Oh, I'm a lion, and this world's an open field In which I try to lie in, but it's hard to feed a lions will Verse 2: Well then I came across a ruined Bridge and I knew that this river I could not forge So I, grinnin' my grin, jumped right in too take a swim Though I was sure I'd never swam before The water took me down far below the ground I thought I'd never see the day again Chorus: Oh, I'm a sinking stone, watching the waters rise right before my eyes, waiting for something to come Bridge: To come and save me (repeat X 3) Verse 3: The night began to fall, and the worst part of all It was fallin' all around my eyes I couldn't catch my breath, feeling the cold grips of death Sinkin' in these watery skies That's when I seen a girl with a fin the color of moon-lit pearls And she swam me to the water's side Chorus: Oh, I'm a lion, sinkin' like a stone Into this world was thrown Into a mermaids arms

Home 03:08
Verse 1: Home, where did you go I thought I built us on a rock that wouldn't roll I thought we were each others shelter from the rain, but Home, where have you been Verse 2: Road, we meet again I hoped you would remain that fond forgotten friend I hoped my searching days were all at an end, but Road, here I am Chorus: Brother, don't you know You can never truly own a home There is nothing in this world you own You're given but a moment and the moment sure feels - Verse 3: Cold, who let you in? I'm known to close my doors, but they've all been blown open I sit here exposed no shelter from the rain, but Cold, here I am Chorus: Brother, don't you know There is nothing in this life you own There is nowhere you can call your home There is no - Verse: Home, I loved you so Sometimes you have to let the things that you love go Sometimes you have to cut the branch so new ones grow, but Home, I love you

Falling 03:53
Verse 1: Couldn't afford my rent this month Cause I spent it all gettin' drunk We all fall in the dark When I was young my dad told me to shoot for the moon Even if you fall short, son I know, You will land among the stars Well I lost my dad, had a failing band, And the fallin' feels like I'll never land I could quit and never dream again I feel like the bird kicked out of the tree And I'm forced to learn to flap my wings I'm not waiting for this fall just to end Chorus: Cause we fall so many times But when we fall we know falling's a part of flyin' And we fall, following our hearts Cause if we don't we know living's not too far from dying Verse 2: Like too many friends of mine Who traded hopes and dreams for their nine to five They're goddamn barely breathin' Poor souls stuck on the side line Deciding if its time to get in, or get dying Not heading what their heart believes in If you're not afraid to fly If you're not afraid to die Then why are you so scared of "Thee Unknown?" Chorus Verse 3: Guess what I'm tryin' to say to you If at first your dreams don't come true Up is not where you give them I write mine down in a book So every morning that I wake I can take a look And every morning I can try and live them Couldn't afford my rent this month Cause I spent it gettin' drunk But every morning you can start again

Verse 1: I was a man, and she was a woman Didn't understand, I'd be movin' on Let go of her hand, but her voice held on so chilling If you leave me here you're gonna always end up alone Chorus: Another Broken heart X 2 Verse 2: I was a hero, now I'm the villain Took the cross road less traveled on May have sold my soul to the devil, but by God he's stealin' Cause he took your soul as well with him and now you're gone Chorus Verse 3: I'd be lyin' if I said I never miss you I'd be cryin' still if I never let you go I'm not sighin at the lips that use to kiss you I'm just sighin' at the lips that told me no Bridge: Yeah, when we first met how could we have known Our hearts would be outgrown Our hearts would turn cold stone When we last met it was past time for goin The last insults been thrown I heard the glass as it shattered on the door Chorus

Intro: Six shooter in my hand, cause I'm running from God I just killed a man, left his body by the waterside It's cold, the breeze is killing me so cold I had love, with the kind you settle down I found my love, hanging six feet above the ground In God's name they cried, I saw the hate behind their lie You better pray tonight, cause now you're gonna die Verse 1: God can't save you now, I drag your bones out to the ocean Six feet in the ground is the only way to stop my motion Until I find each one, and drag em out under the sun Watch them burn inside on this judgement day Chorus: You take my eyes I take yours back A blind mans' world is not as black As a quick draw and the sudden crack from the barrel of a 45. Verse 2: I heard your wife and child singing by the water's side Ring them by their neck and tie em to a tree I can't contain this fire burning hot with my desire Eye for bloody eye is all I'll ever see Chorus: You take my eyes I take yours back A blind mans' world is not as black As a quick drop and the sudden crack danglin' from the hangman's line

about

I have been holding these songs inside for quite a long time. I quit college to pursue my dreams in a failing rock band. After that fell apart and after a few life twists, jobs, traveling, getting married, and Seven years of life rolling on by, I finally decided to record these songs that had been weighing down in my soul. It was one of those great releases: being in the studio with two of my really close friends and just throwing it all onto the canvas. We had just a couple of weekends, a whole lot of coffee and Yerba Mate and just piled through the music until the early hours of the morning. I felt the weight come out of my soul and onto the tracks of this album, and I know you will feel it as well.

Special thanks to JP Bogan for recording me in his awesome Eugeners studio, and for endless late hours of mixing and editing, and re-mixing; also for his awesome beats and bass and soloing. I want to also thank one of my Besties Tim Moll, for bringing the creative imagination, the insane piano, guitar riffs, and beats, and ideas. Without both of you this album would have not gotten off the couch and become what it is.

about

Mitch Lofstedt Portland, Oregon

Writing folk music is my art. Every lyric and chord has been played over thousands of times in my bedroom, on my toilet, on the living room couch, outside by campfires, and on my back stoop until I’ve found the perfect sound. Everywhere I look is inspiration for a song or poem. It’s like a disease but one I don’t wish to cure. I just want to be heard and able to support myself with my music. ... more
